A Genetic Interaction Approach to Define Cell Envelope Pathways in Zymomonas mobilis
The bacterial cell envelope is a barrier to environmental stress. The alphaproteobacteria, Zymomonas mobilis, has an
envelope that can resist high concentrations of sugar and ethanol. My research project focuses on developing and
taking a genetic interaction approach to characterize the Z. mobilis cell envelope . Specifically, I propose using a
genetic interaction strategy I call “Double-CRISPRi” to systematically characterize cell envelope genes and map
genetic pathways in Z. mobilis.
