ETD, Dissociation, Ion/Ion Reactions, PRM, and Theory

I have begun working on a technique called electron transfer dissociation. This technology exposes
multiply protonated peptides and proteins to radical anions and results in dissociation of the peptides in
predictable and informative ways. My current aim is to (1) leverage my technological background to make
this reaction faster and (2) utilize this technology to provide the first ever automated glycan sequencer.
Briefly, the reactions are presently too slow and that limits the method to only the most abundance
glycoproteins in the sample. My work will increase the flux of the anions, optimize the ion population
sizes, and increase the RF voltages – all of which could make the process multiple-fold faster.
