Exploring the Diversity and Ecology of Bacteriophages
There is a critical knowledge gap regarding prophages which impacts our understanding of phage implications in ecosystems and biogeochemistry. My project consists of identifying and characterizing prophages and lytic viruses in microbiomes by exploring existing databases and using different bioinformatic tools. Their identification and characterization are central to studying and exploring the diversity and ecology of lysogenic and lytic phages.
