Interdomain conjugation
Fungi are an important part of the microbiome and are the cause of many human diseases. Currently,
there aren’t many effective ways to control them due to the rise in antifungal resistance. Interdomain
conjugation between bacteria and fungi can be used to control fungal populations through essentially
cross domain horizontal gene transfer. I am currently developing a system to target the clinically relevant
species, Candida albicans.
