Employing Cell and Tissue Engineering Strategies to Direct Neurovascular Regeneration for Stroke Recovery
Ischemic strokes account for approximately 87% of total stroke cases and are a leading cause of neurological disability. These injuries result in the rapid loss of neurons, vasculature, and surrounding brain tissue, which lacks efficient regenerative capacity and thereby limits long-term recovery. Despite the prevalence of stroke, therapeutic options remain limited, with rehabilitation offering inconsistent outcomes. To address this gap, we aim to employ cell and tissue engineering strategies that promote neurovascular regeneration and enable mechanistic interrogation of post-ischemic repair.
